METROPOLITAN PAPER RECYCLING CARES
Brooklyn, New York -- The Metropolitan Paper Recycling Company has made a commitment to helping the community in which they are headquartered. The President and CEO, Gregory Bianco, met with members of the Brooklyn Chiefs Youth Organization, a not-for-profit youth football program, last month to see how he could help. Bianco stated that he has successfully been operating in the East New York area for five years and it was time to see how he could positively affect the community.
In his travels to and from the company he noticed a group of dedicated players and coaches constantly practicing in the Thomas Jefferson HS Athletic Complex on Flatlands Avenue. This was definitely what he was looking for, an organization that made a positive impact on the community. Bianco also stated that he felt this was a very good cause to give to, specifically since it involved the nurturing and development of kids.
The Brooklyn Chiefs Youth Organization, which was established in 2003 by its President Barry “Jus” Hall, has grown to serve close to 200 players from 8 to 15 years old. Hall has stated that through football he was not only able to provide an attractive physical activity to improve on the overall health of individuals, but also able to provide a safe place for children and families to gather to become familiar with each other. Hall also stated that over the years they have realized that the needs of the youth in our communities far surpass youth football and have broaden our mission to address not only the physical health of youth, but also to prepare them academically and socially for a brighter future. The Chiefs have incorporated several other components including cheerleading, tutoring, high school test preparation, community services and mentoring.
Both Metropolitan and the Chiefs are looking forward to partnering together to improve the overall quality of options available to the youth in the community. Metropolitan has committed to making a financial donation in a significant undisclosed amount that will be used to help offset the operating costs of the Brooklyn Chiefs. Metropolitan is not new to working with youth. They have opened their doors to school groups that have expressed an interest in teaching their students the process of paper recycling.

PEE WEE DIVISION
Brooklyn Chiefs vs Brooklyn Warriors
The Big Apple Youth Football Game of the Week lived up to its hype as the Brooklyn Chiefs and the New York Warriors, who both entered the game undefeated with a record of 4-0, will stay undefeated for at least one more game, as they ended the game with a 6-6 tie. The fans saw a great defensive performance by both teams, as neither team allowed its opponent to score in the second half.
In the first quarter, the Brooklyn Chiefs attacked first with a 5 yard touchdown from Antonio Snell. In the second quarter the Brooklyn Warriors answered back with a 20 yard touchdown from Alfonso Jackson.
The second half was full of great defensive stops by both teams. Chief's # 52 made crucial tackles in the third quarter. #1 also helped out the Chiefs with putting good pressure on the ball. For the Warriors, the Walden brothers, Jahqyest and Jahquan did a tremendous job as they both recovered fumbles during crucial points of the game.
After the game both teams felt that they could have done a better job executing the ball offensively, but without a doubt it was a great game defensively.

The Brooklyn Chiefs Youth Organization (BCYO) is a tax-exempt not-for-profit organization. A growing community based organization whose mission is to enrich the educational, social skills and physical health of our community youth between the ages of seven to fourteen through competitive team sports and activities. Founded in 2003 by Barry Hall, the vision of BCYO is to use the dynamics and appeal that sport programs offer to positively affect social change and promote sportsmanship to underprivileged kids.
The Brooklyn Chiefs Football Program has been in existence since 2003. Presently BCYO serves well over 100 young boys and girls between the ages of seven to fourteen. In 2005 a cheerleading team for girls from ages five to fifteen was added. Another amazing component of the program is the Brooklyn Chief’s Literacy Program. All participants (players and cheerleaders) must participate and complete the program. Lack of participation in the reading program means lack of participation on the playing field. What is different about this literacy program is that it is a self regulated program (with supervision) in which students choose the subject matter from a collection of culturally and age appropriate literature derived from the African Heroes collection of illustrated books. Research suggests that students are encouraged to improve comprehension when reading subject matter of their own choice.
In its brief existence the program has experienced the following unparalleled success:
-
In BCYO’s inaugural year, the Peanuts team (7&8) played in and won the Warner Conference championship
-
In 2003/2004 three teams advanced to the playoffs
-
During the 2005 season, the Jr. Midgets team finished with a 7-0-1 record, outscoring opponents 245 to 40.
-
In 2005, four teams from the organization made it to the playoffs and two teams have advanced to compete in the league’s “Super bowl”
-
In 2006 four teams competed for AFC divisional championship.
-
2006, the Jr. PeeWee Metro team finished 10-0 winning the Metro Bowl Championship.
-
2006, the PeeWee team played for the second consecutive year in the Big Apple Youth Football Superbowl and was invited to compete nationally in Tampa, Florida for American Youth Football (AYF) Championship. The PeeWee team is proud to announce that we are currently ranked second in the nation in Division IAA Youth Football.
In addition to the success of the program, the BCYO also enjoyed numerous media attention:
-
The Chiefs appeared in the 2004 United Way/NFL public service announcement campaign featuring New York Jets Quarterback Chad Pennington. The feature ran throughout the 2004 regular season culminating with a final spot which aired nationally during the XIV Super bowl.
-
The organizations Literacy program received impressive coverage by News 12 Brooklyn with spots airing intermittently over a 24 hour period in the month of October.
-
The Chiefs has appeared for two consecutive years on the CBS Morning Show with Dave Price and will appear later in the year during the networks holiday special.
